Tuesday, December 7: Innovative policies and noteworthy regional programs that are leading the way to enabling high penetration and large scale integeration of renewable and distributed energy resources (DER) will be reviewed, allowing participants to identify initiatives undertaken around the world that successfully link techology development with supportive policy frameworks.
Wednesday, December 8: Academia, utilities, and technology manufacturers will provide attendees with recent research and development results in support of DER integeration scenarios in 2010 and beyond. The sessions will cover technical, market, and regulatory issues.
Thursday, December 9:
New research surrounding advanced concepts and approaches that will enable high penetration
DER scenarios in the future—including modeling and simiulation, archituecture concepts, future technologies,
performance standards, and other RDT&D activities—will be presented. In addition critical
technical, regulatory, and market challenges to DER integration will be highlighted, including
active network management, virtual power plants, and ICT uses like smart metering.
• Papers on technical matters will focus on electrical network management and the future
role of ICT technologies. Papers on market will address the development of aggregation economic
models, including the use of customer flexibility to illustrate how technology and business innovation
can be coupled to support agile and smooth DER integeration into existing electricity grids. Papers
on regulations and policies will address two primary issues:
(1) fair netowrk costs that support the build out and management of significant DER resources; and (2)
new schemes that encourage the efficient integration of DER onto the grid.
• One poster session is organized during the evening of December 7 to allow for more in-depth,
face-to-face discussions on recent research and development results. It will further spotlight the wealth
of knowledge gained in the past two years on DER integration.
